LAGOS, NIGERIA – May 16, 2025 – GoMed, the African-focused healthtech startup transforming medicine access through its AI-powered online pharmacy marketplace, has won First Place at the prestigious Slush'D 2025 Pitching Competition in Lagos. Selected from among a variety of innovative startups, GoMed was universally honored for its bold vision to digitize healthcare access for underserved communities across Africa.
The Lagos edition of Slush'D — an offshoot of the globally renowned Finnish startup event — spotlights groundbreaking companies working to solve real-world problems across emerging markets. This year’s event drew startups across Nigeria focused on health, HR, agritech, marketing, and more, many with a common theme of AI catalyzing productivity.
“Winning Slush'D is more than a trophy—it’s a signal that the world is ready to invest in Africa’s health future,” said Anthony Edeki, CEO and Co-founder of GoMed. “We are building a trusted digital ecosystem that gives community pharmacies superpowers, combats problems with medicine findability and affordability, and restores dignity to how people access care.”
Digitizing Access to Safe Medicine
GoMed was founded in 2021 to solve a serious problem spanning the African continent: findability of medicine in a fragmented market. With 90% of Nigerian community pharmacies operating offline and undercapitalized, GoMed’s marketplace connects patients directly to vetted, PCN registered pharmacies through a powerful ecommerce platform backed by AI.
Key features of the platform include:
- Nigeria’s largest online catalog of pharmacy products
- Product ordering with ultra fast home delivery in Lagos (under 4 hours)
- Access to free pharmacist chats and affordable doctor consultations
- Marketplace services for pharmacies, medtech, and pharmaceutical partners
Today, GoMed partners with over 75 pharmacies across Nigeria and is serving thousands of website visitors monthly.
Backed by Vision, Fueled by Impact
GoMed operates across Lagos and is expanding rapidly across Nigeria. The platform supports pharmacies in going online, automates medicine findability, and provides a direct link to affordable, authentic medications for families, especially in urban and peri-urban areas.
The GoMed team includes:
- Eric Baumgardner, CEO (exited founder, digital marketing & tech expert)
- Anthony Edeki, CEO Nigeria, with banking and operations expertise
- Dr. Aaron Grandy, CMAO, a pharmaceutical strategy executive with Big Pharma ties
GoMed is also backed by a strong advisory board spanning Africa, Europe, and North America.
Next Steps: Growth, Partnerships & Funding
Fresh off the Slush'D victory, GoMed is raising an €500K pre-seed round to scale operations, deepen AI capabilities, and grow its network of healthcare providers within the next year.
The company invites strategic investors, global health partners, and digital health innovators to join its mission of transforming access to medicine across the continent.
