Active Ingredient

• Dutasteride 0.5 mg: A 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor that reduces the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone involved in prostate growth.

Indications

Avodart is indicated for the treatment of:

• Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Used to improve symptoms, reduce the risk of acute urinary retention, and decrease the likelihood of BPH-related surgery in men with an enlarged prostate.

• Dosage: One capsule (0.5 mg) taken orally once daily.
• Administration: Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not chew or open the capsules, as contact with the contents may cause irritation of the mouth or throat. Avodart can be taken with or without food.
• Duration of Treatment: Continuous treatment for at least 6 months may be necessary to assess whether a beneficial response has been achieved.

Possible Side Effects

• Common: Impotence, decreased libido, breast tenderness or enlargement, ejaculation disorders.
• Serious: Allergic reactions, including rash, itching, hives, and swelling of the lips and face; testicular pain or swelling.
