What is Biophage 500?
Biophage 500 is a prescription-only antidiabetic medication used to manage blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It contains Metformin Hydrochloride (500mg) as its active ingredient, which belongs to the biguanide class of drugs. It is manufactured in Nigeria by SKG Pharma Limited.
How Biophage 500 Works
Biophage works in three ways to help control blood sugar:
- It decreases the amount of glucose (sugar) produced by your liver.
- It decreases the absorption of glucose from your intestines.
- It improves insulin sensitivity, helping your body use its own insulin more effectively to take up glucose from the blood.
Dosage and Administration
Biophage 500mg tablets should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is typically taken with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Do not crush or chew the tablets; swallow them whole with water.
Side Effects and Precautions
