Uses of Calcium Gluconate Injection
Calcium Gluconate is primarily used for:
- Acute Hypocalcemia: Rapidly restoring calcium levels in patients with dangerously low blood calcium (hypocalcemic tetany).
- Hyperkalemia: Protecting the heart (cardioprotection) from the toxic effects of high potassium levels.
- Magnesium Toxicity: Reversing the effects of magnesium sulfate overdose, often used in obstetric care.
Dosage and Administration
This product is for Slow Intravenous (IV) Injection or IV Infusion only. It must be administered by a healthcare professional.
- Warning: Never administer this injection via intramuscular (IM) or subcutaneous (SC) routes, as it can cause severe tissue damage and necrosis.
- The rate of administration should be slow to prevent cardiac side effects.
Storage and Handling
- Store at room temperature (15°C to 30°C).
- Do not freeze.
- The solution should be clear and free of particles before use. If crystals are present, they may be dissolved by warming the ampoule.
