Canesten V6: 6-Day Vaginal Tablet for Thrush Relief
Canesten Vaginal Tablet (commonly known in Nigeria as Canesten V6) is a trusted 6-day treatment for vaginal thrush, a condition often locally referred to as a "toilet infection." This pack contains six 100mg clotrimazole pessaries designed to be inserted deep into the vagina to eliminate the fungal infection at its source.
How Canesten 6-Day Therapy Works
The active ingredient, Clotrimazole (100mg), is a broad-spectrum antifungal. It works by disrupting the cell membranes of the fungi causing the infection. Unlike the single-dose (500mg) variant, the 6-day regimen provides a steady release of medication over nearly a week. This gradual approach ensures thorough treatment and helps reduce the risk of the infection returning. It effectively relieves common symptoms like intense itching, swelling, and unusual vaginal discharge.
How to Use Canesten Vaginal Tablets
For the best results, one tablet should be inserted as high as possible into the vagina every evening before bed for six consecutive nights.
- Wash your hands thoroughly.
- Place the tablet into the included plastic applicator.
- Lie on your back with your knees drawn up and insert the applicator into the vagina.
- Depress the plunger to release the tablet.
- Wash the applicator after use or use a fresh one if provided.
Note: The tablet requires vaginal moisture to dissolve. If you experience vaginal dryness, the tablet may not dissolve fully.
Precautions and Safety
- Pregnancy: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a GoMed pharmacist or your doctor before use. In pregnancy, the tablet should be inserted with the finger rather than the applicator.
- Menstruation: Do not start treatment during your period. Ensure the course is finished before your period begins.
- Latex Sensitivity: Canesten may reduce the effectiveness of condoms or diaphragms. Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment.
- Sensation: Some users in Nigeria report a mild "peppery" or burning feeling upon insertion. This is usually temporary, but if it becomes severe, stop use and seek medical advice.
Always finish the full 6-day course, even if symptoms disappear earlier.
