Celebrex (Celecoxib) Capsules
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) for Pain and Inflammation
Celebrex is a prescription medication containing celecoxib, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). It is commonly used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with various conditions.
Indications
Osteoarthritis: Alleviates joint pain and stiffness.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: Reduces inflammation and pain in the joints.
Ankylosing Spondylitis: Eases symptoms of spinal arthritis.
Acute Pain: Manages short-term pain, such as postoperative discomfort.
Primary Dysmenorrhea: Relieves menstrual pain.
Dosage and Administration
Osteoarthritis: 200 mg once daily or 100 mg twice daily.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: 100–200 mg twice daily.
Ankylosing Spondylitis: 200 mg daily, either as a single dose or divided into two doses.
Acute Pain and Primary Dysmenorrhea: Initial dose of 400 mg, followed by an additional 200 mg if needed on the first day; then 200 mg twice daily as required.
Note: Dosage should be individualized based on patient needs and response. Always follow the prescribing physician's instructions.
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to celecoxib or any component of the formulation.
Allergy to sulfonamides.
History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
Use in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
Warnings and Precautions
Cardiovascular Risk: May increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke.
Gastrointestinal Risk: Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and perforation.
Renal Effects: Caution in patients with impaired renal function.
Hepatic Effects: Monitor liver function in patients with hepatic impairment.
Side Effects
Common: Abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, edema.
Serious: Cardiovascular events, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatotoxicity, renal toxicity, serious skin reactions.
Seek immediate medical attention if serious side effects occur.
Drug Interactions
May interact with anticoagulants, other NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, diuretics, and lithium.

Use in Specific Populations
Pregnancy: Use is not recommended, especially in the third trimester.
Lactation: Not recommended; consult your healthcare provider.
Pediatric Use: Safety and efficacy have not been established in patients under 18 years of age.
