Civodex is a sterile, fixed-dose combination ophthalmic and otic solution formulated to provide relief from infections and inflammatory conditions of the eye and ear. It combines two powerful active ingredients: Ciprofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and Dexamethasone, a potent corticosteroid.
How It Works
Civodex works through a dual-action mechanism:
- Antibacterial Protection: Ciprofloxacin acts by killing the bacteria that cause infections, preventing them from multiplying.
- Anti-inflammatory Action: Dexamethasone helps reduce the associated redness, swelling, and itching often found with infections or after surgery.
Indications
Civodex is used for treating steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions where a bacterial infection or a risk of infection exists.
- Eye Care: Conditions such as conjunctivitis (pink eye), keratitis, blepharitis, and post-operative inflammation.
- Ear Care: Acute or chronic otitis externa and certain types of otitis media.
Directions for Use
Always follow your doctor's instructions. Standard application typically includes:
- For Eyes: 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 4–6 hours.
- For Ears: 3–4 drops into the affected ear(s) every 4–6 hours.
Safety and Storage
Store Civodex below 30°C in a dry place, protected from direct light. Ensure the dropper tip does not touch any surface to maintain sterility. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare professional. You can also contact a GoMed pharmacist for more information.
