What is Co-Mepiryl?
Co-Mepiryl is a prescription antidiabetic medication manufactured by May & Baker Nigeria PLC. It is a combination therapy specifically formulated for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults whose blood sugar levels are not adequately controlled by diet, exercise, or single-agent therapies.
How it Works
Co-Mepiryl combines two active ingredients that work in different ways to control blood glucose:
- Glimepiride: A sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin.
- Metformin Hydrochloride (Sustained Release): A biguanide that reduces glucose production in the liver, lowers intestinal absorption, and improves the body's sensitivity to insulin.
Active Ingredients
Each bilayer tablet contains:
- Glimepiride: 2mg
- Metformin Hydrochloride: 500mg
Dosage and Administration
Co-Mepiryl should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is typically taken once or twice daily with meals to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. The "sustained-release" (SR) formulation of Metformin allows for a gradual release of the medication throughout the day.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Nausea or stomach upset
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), especially if meals are skipped.
Precautions
- Prescription Only: This is a Prescription-Only Medication (POM). Do not self-medicate.
- Pregnancy: Consult your doctor or a GoMed pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
