What is Daonil 5mg Tablet?
Daonil is a trusted oral medication used to manage blood sugar levels in adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Produced by Sanofi, each tablet contains 5mg of Glibenclamide (also known as glyburide), a second-generation sulfonylurea that helps the body produce more insulin.
How Daonil Works
The active ingredient, Glibenclamide, works by stimulating the beta cells in your pancreas to release insulin. This helps lower blood glucose levels when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone are not enough. It is specifically designed for Type 2 Diabetes and is not effective for Type 1 Diabetes.
Dosage and Administration
Daonil should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual starting dose is often 2.5mg to 5mg daily, taken with your first main meal of the day. Do not skip meals after taking this medication, as it could lead to low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Important Precautions
- Type 1 Diabetes: Daonil is not suitable for Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
- Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Always consult a healthcare professional before use. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, discuss alternative options with your doctor.
- Hypoglycemia: Be aware of signs of low blood sugar, such as dizziness, sweating, and confusion.
