What is Epilim Syrup?
Epilim Syrup (200mg/5ml) is a trusted anti-epileptic medication manufactured by Sanofi. It contains the active ingredient sodium valproate, which belongs to a group of medicines called anticonvulsants. This medication is primarily prescribed to treat various types of seizures (epilepsy) in adults and children. It is also used to manage manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder.
How Epilim Syrup Works
Sodium valproate works by increasing the levels of a natural chemical called GABA in the brain. GABA helps to calm the overactive electrical signals that cause seizures and mood imbalances, leading to a more stable and peaceful neurological state.
Important Formulation Update (2025/2026)
Please note that Sanofi has recently updated the formulation of Epilim Syrup to remove certain coloring agents. While older stock may appear cherry-red, the newer batches are clear to slightly yellow in color. Both formulations contain the same amount of active ingredient and are equally effective.
Usage and Safety
Epilim Syrup is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM). It must be taken exactly as directed by your doctor or healthcare provider. Due to the risk of birth defects, women of childbearing age must follow a strict pregnancy prevention program while taking this medication.
