What is Persentin (Dipyridamole)?
Persentin contains Dipyridamole 100mg, an antiplatelet medication and coronary vasodilator. It is primarily prescribed to help prevent blood clots following heart valve replacement surgery. By making blood platelets less "sticky," it reduces the risk of serious complications like strokes or thromboembolism when used alongside other anticoagulants like Warfarin.
In Nigeria, it is also known by the brand name Persantine.
How Persentin Works
Dipyridamole works by inhibiting the phosphodiesterase enzyme, which increases cyclic AMP levels in your blood platelets. This process prevents platelets from clumping together to form dangerous clots. Additionally, Persentin helps dilate the coronary arteries, improving blood flow to the heart muscle.
Dosage and Administration
Persentin tablets are usually taken orally. Your doctor will determine the exact dosage based on your medical condition and response to treatment. For the best results, it should be taken consistently at the same time each day. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your healthcare provider or a GoMed pharmacist.
