Proscar 5mg Tablets (Finasteride)
Proscar 5mg is a widely used medication in Nigeria for the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate. The active ingredient, Finasteride, belongs to a class of drugs called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It works by blocking the production of a hormone (DHT) that causes the prostate to grow.
By reducing the size of the prostate, Proscar helps to relieve uncomfortable urinary symptoms. This includes a weak urine stream, the feeling that your bladder isn't completely empty, and frequent trips to the toilet—especially during the night.
How to use Proscar 5mg
For effective results, take one 5mg tablet daily. You can take it with or without food, but it is best to take it at the same time every day to maintain a consistent level in your bloodstream.
Managing an enlarged prostate takes time. Most men in Nigeria find that it takes about six months of consistent use to see significant improvement in urinary flow and a reduction in symptoms. Do not stop taking the medication without speaking to your doctor or a GoMed pharmacist, even if you start to feel better early on.
Important Safety Warning
Proscar is strictly for adult men. Women and children should not handle Proscar tablets.
There is a serious risk for pregnant women; the active ingredient can be absorbed through the skin if a tablet is crushed or broken. This can cause birth defects in a male baby. If contact occurs, wash the area immediately with soap and water.
Side Effects
While many men use Proscar without major issues, some may experience:
- Decreased sex drive (libido)
- Difficulty with erections
- Breast tenderness
