Sofra Tulle 10cm x 10cm Antibiotic Gauze (Sanofi)
Sofra Tulle is a sterile, medicated antibiotic tulle gras dressing used to treat and prevent infections in skin wounds. Manufactured by Sanofi Aventis, it is one of the most trusted names in wound care in Nigeria. Each 10cm x 10cm dressing consists of a cotton leno-weave gauze impregnated with a base of white soft paraffin containing 1% Framycetin Sulphate BP.
Framycetin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that targets bacteria directly at the wound site. Because it is paraffin-based, Sofra Tulle does not stick to the wound bed, ensuring that dressing changes are virtually painless and do not damage newly formed skin.
Key Indications
Sofra Tulle is highly effective for managing:
- Burns and Scalds: Minor heat injuries and broken skin.
- Infected Wounds: Cuts, abrasions, and lacerations showing signs of infection.
- Ulcers: Leg ulcers, pressure sores, and diabetic foot ulcers.
- Skin Grafts: Protecting both the donor and recipient sites during the healing process.
- Boils and Abscesses: Often used after drainage to provide a sterile, antibiotic barrier.
Benefits of Using Sofra Tulle
- Antibiotic Protection: Provides a bactericidal barrier against common skin pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus.
- Non-Adherent (Non-Stick): The paraffin coating ensures the dressing doesn't stick to the wound, allowing for trauma-free removal.
- Promotes Faster Healing: Maintains a moist environment which is essential for rapid skin repair.
- Easy to Use: Can be easily cut to size to fit specific wound areas.
Application Instructions
- Cleanse: Gently clean the wound with sterile saline or water.
- Apply: Open the sterile foil pouch and place a single layer of Sofra Tulle directly onto the wound.
- Cover: Use an absorbent secondary dressing (like sterile cotton pads) to manage any wound drainage.
- Secure: Fix in place with medical tape or a bandage.
- Frequency: Change the dressing daily or as directed by a healthcare professional.
Precautions
- Duration: Do not use for more than 7–10 days consecutively to avoid antibiotic resistance.
- Allergies: Do not use if you are allergic to Framycetin, Neomycin, or Lanolin.
- Consultation: If you notice excessive redness, swelling, or a foul odor from the wound, contact a GoMed pharmacist or your doctor immediately.
