Swidar (Fansidar) Tablets x3: Trusted Antimalarial Treatment
Swidar is a high-quality antimalarial medication manufactured by Swiss Pharma Nigeria Limited (Swipha). It is the widely used Nigerian equivalent of the original Fansidar brand. Each pack contains three tablets, which constitutes a complete single-dose treatment for an adult.
Active Ingredients
Swidar contains a potent fixed-dose combination:
- Sulfadoxine (500mg)
- Pyrimethamine (25mg)
These ingredients work together to block the malaria parasite's ability to replicate, providing effective relief and prevention.
Primary Uses: Malaria Prevention in Pregnancy (IPTp)
In Nigeria, Swidar is a cornerstone of the Intermittent Preventive Treatment in pregnancy (IPTp) program. It is specifically used to prevent malaria-related complications for both the mother and the unborn baby.
While it is also used for the treatment of acute, uncomplicated malaria, Nigerian health guidelines primarily emphasize its role in pregnancy care during antenatal visits.
How to Take Swidar (Dosage)
The standard adult dosage for treating malaria is a single dose of 3 tablets taken at once (STAT). It should be taken with a full glass of water.
Note for Pregnant Women: Swidar should only be taken for IPTp under the direct supervision of a doctor or midwife, typically starting from the second trimester.
