Administration
For adults and teenagers, the recommended dosage is 650 to 1000 milligrams (mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Follow the label instructions carefully for the maximum dose per day, and do not exceed 4000 mg (8 tablets) in 24 hours.
Precaution
Taking excessive acetaminophen can lead to liver damage, potentially requiring a liver transplant or resulting in death. While most acetaminophen is eliminated through urine, a byproduct is produced, which can be toxic to the liver. Side effects of Tylenol (acetaminophen) may include nausea, stomach pain, headache, hoarseness, loss of appetite, itching, rash, dark urine, clay-colored stools, and swelling of the face, throat, tongue, or limbs.
