Brimopress Eye Drop (Brimonidine Tartrate 0.2%)
Brimopress is a sterile ophthalmic solution primarily used to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in individuals diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. High eye pressure, if left untreated, can lead to optic nerve damage and vision loss.
How Brimopress Works
The active ingredient, Brimonidine Tartrate (0.2%), belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists. It works through a dual-action mechanism:
- It reduces the production of aqueous humor (the fluid inside the eye).
- It improves the drainage (uveoscleral outflow) of fluid from the eye.
This dual action helps maintain healthy eye pressure and protects your vision.
Dosage and Administration
Always follow the specific instructions provided by your ophthalmologist or healthcare provider. The typical dosage is:
- One drop in the affected eye(s) two to three times daily, approximately 8 to 12 hours apart.
If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5–10 minutes between applications.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include eye redness, stinging, blurred vision, or a dry mouth. Most symptoms are mild and temporary. If you experience severe irritation or allergic reactions, discontinue use and contact a GoMed pharmacist or your doctor immediately.
Storage
Store Brimopress in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Discard any remaining solution 28–30 days after first opening the bottle to ensure sterility.
