Camosunate (1-6 Years) Pediatric Antimalarial
Camosunate (1-6 years) is a trusted antimalarial medication for children in Nigeria. It is an Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT) that combines Artesunate (50mg) and Amodiaquine (150mg) to effectively treat uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum.
This pediatric formulation comes as a granular powder in sachets, making it easy to administer to young children who may have difficulty swallowing tablets. It has a pleasant vanilla flavor to help with compliance.
How to Mix Camosunate Powder
To prepare the medication, dissolve the contents of the sachet(s) for the day's dose in 30ml (about two tablespoons) of clean water. Stir well and give it to the child immediately. It is best taken with food or after a meal to reduce the risk of stomach upset.
Camosunate Dosage for Children (1-6 Years)
The standard treatment course for Camosunate is one dose daily for three consecutive days.
- Day 1: One Dose
- Day 2: One Dose
- Day 3: One Dose
It is very important to complete the full 3-day course, even if the child feels better after the first dose, to ensure the malaria parasites are completely cleared. If you have any questions about the dosage by weight, please speak with a GoMed pharmacist.
Common Side Effects
Some children may experience mild side effects such as nausea, vomiting, or dizziness. These usually do not last long and should stop once the treatment is finished. If you notice any unusual skin rash or if the child becomes very weak, stop the medication and consult a doctor immediately.
Note: Always consult with a healthcare professional or a GoMed pharmacist before starting any new medication for your child.
