What is Vonozan 20mg?
Vonozan 20mg is an advanced acid-suppressing medication used to treat conditions caused by excessive stomach acid. It contains Vonoprazan, which belongs to a new class of drugs known as Potassium-Competitive Acid Blockers (P-CABs).
Unlike traditional Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), Vonozan provides faster and more stable acid suppression, making it highly effective for both daytime and nighttime relief.
What is Vonozan Used For?
In Nigeria, doctors commonly prescribe Vonozan 20mg for:
- Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers: To help heal and prevent the recurrence of stomach ulcers.
- Reflux Esophagitis (GERD): For the treatment of "heartburn" and acid reflux symptoms.
- H. pylori Eradication: Used in combination with antibiotics to treat Helicobacter pylori infections.
- NSAID-Induced Ulcer Prevention: To protect the stomach in patients taking long-term pain medications.
How Vonozan Works
Vonozan works by blocking the acid pumps in the stomach lining. Because it is a P-CAB, it does not require acid to become active. This allows it to start working quickly and maintain its effect longer than older generation medicines like Omeprazole or Esomeprazole.
Dosage and Administration
Vonozan 20mg is usually taken once daily, with or without food. However, you should strictly follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor or healthcare provider. For H. pylori treatment, it is often taken twice daily as part of a triple-therapy pack.
Note: Always consult a GoMed pharmacist or your doctor before starting this medication to ensure it is appropriate for your condition.
