Pyrantrin Suspension is a reliable anthelmintic medication produced by Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc. It is widely used across Nigeria as an effective worm expeller for the entire family. The active ingredient, Pyrantel Pamoate, provides a targeted solution for common intestinal parasite infections.

How Pyrantrin Syrup Works

Pyrantrin contains 250mg of Pyrantel Pamoate per 5ml. It acts as a neuromuscular blocking agent that paralyzes susceptible worms. Once paralyzed, the parasites lose their grip on the intestinal wall and are expelled naturally from the body through bowel movements, without the need for additional laxatives.

What it Treats

This oral suspension is highly effective against several types of intestinal worms, including:

• Roundworms (Ascaris lumbricoides)
• Hookworms (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus)
• Pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis)
• Threadworms

Dosage and Administration

For best results, shake the bottle well before use. Pyrantrin is usually taken as a single dose.

• Adults: The typical dosage for adults is 15ml (the entire bottle) taken at once.
• Children (2-12 years): Dosage is generally based on weight (approx. 11mg/kg). A common guide is 2.5ml to 10ml depending on the child's age and weight.
• Hookworm Treatment: In cases of severe hookworm infection, a daily dose may be required for three consecutive days.
