Santen Cosopt is a sterile ophthalmic solution used to lower high pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure). It is primarily prescribed for patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension when other treatments are not sufficient.

Dual-Action Relief

Cosopt works using two active ingredients that target eye pressure in different ways:

• Dorzolamide (2%): A carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that reduces the production of fluid (aqueous humor) in the eye.
• Timolol (0.5%): A beta-blocker that also helps decrease fluid production.

By combining these two agents, Santen Cosopt provides a more effective reduction in intraocular pressure than either medication used alone.

How to Use Santen Cosopt

For best results, follow your doctor's instructions. The typical dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily (morning and evening).

1. Preparation: Wash your hands thoroughly before use.
2. Application: Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid to create a pocket.
3. Dropping: Hold the bottle over the eye and squeeze out one drop.
4. Aftercare: Close your eye for a minute and apply gentle pressure to the corner of the eye near the nose. This prevents the medicine from draining away.

Storage and Safety in Nigeria

In the Nigerian climate, it is essential to store Cosopt in a cool, dry place below 30°C.

• The 28-Day Rule: Once opened, the bottle must be discarded after 28 days to prevent bacterial contamination.
