Seretide Diskus 50/250mcg Inhalation Powder (60 Doses)
Seretide Diskus 50/250mcg is a combination inhalation therapy used for the long-term management of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), it helps prevent symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.
This device, often referred to as the "Seretide Orange Inhaler", contains two active medicines:
- Salmeterol (50mcg): A long-acting bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles in the lungs' airways, keeping them open for up to 12 hours.
- Fluticasone Propionate (250mcg): A corticosteroid that reduces swelling and irritation in the lungs.
Key Benefits
- Dual Action: Combines a preventer and a long-acting reliever in one device.
- Long-lasting Relief: Provides maintenance therapy for 12-hour airway protection.
- Accurate Dosing: The Diskus device includes a dose counter to show how many inhalations are left.
- Proven Efficacy: Formulated with Salmeterol and Fluticasone to provide better control than using a steroid alone.
How to Use Seretide Diskus
- Open: Hold the outer case in one hand and put the thumb of your other hand on the thumb grip. Push the thumb grip away from you as far as it will go.
- Load: Slide the lever away from you until it clicks. Your dose is now ready.
- Inhale: Breathe out away from the device. Put the mouthpiece to your lips and breathe in steadily and deeply through the Diskus.
- Hold: Remove the Diskus, hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then breathe out slowly.
- Close: Slide the thumb grip back towards you to close the device.
- Rinse: Always rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after use to prevent oral thrush.
Safety Information
- Not for Acute Attacks: Do not use Seretide Diskus for sudden shortness of breath. Always keep a "rescue" inhaler (like Ventolin) with you.
- Maintenance Therapy: Use it every day as prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel well.
- Consult a Pharmacist: If you have questions about how to use your inhaler or concerns about side effects like hoarseness, contact a GoMed pharmacist for professional advice.
