What is Franol X?
Franol X is a bronchodilator medication commonly used in Nigeria to manage symptoms of bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, and other respiratory conditions like COPD. It helps to open up the airways, making it easier to breathe when experiencing wheezing or chest tightness.
Franol Adult Dosage and Usage
For adults and children over 12 years, the typical dosage is one tablet taken every 4 to 6 hours. It is important not to exceed a maximum of 3 to 4 tablets in a 24-hour period.
This medication is particularly effective for:
- Asthma Management: Providing relief from sudden wheezing and shortness of breath.
- Chronic Bronchitis: Helping to clear the airways and reduce the "heavy" feeling in the chest.
- Breathing Difficulties: Relieving nasal congestion and airway restriction.
How Franol Works
Franol contains two active ingredients that work together:
- Theophylline (120mg): Relaxes the smooth muscles in the bronchi (airways) to improve airflow.
- Ephedrine Hydrochloride (11mg): Reduces swelling in the respiratory passages and acts as a decongestant.
Important Safety Information
Franol X should be used with caution and preferably under a doctor's prescription (POM). It may cause side effects such as restlessness, insomnia, or an increased heart rate.
