Lipitor is part of the statin class of drugs. It functions by blocking the enzyme in your liver that produces cholesterol. Lower levels of cholesterol produced leads to less cholesterol accumulating in your arteries. This allows the heart to pump blood more efficiently, and reduces the risk of heart disease.
