What is Gyno-Daktarin Vaginal Cream?
Gyno-Daktarin Vaginal Cream 2% is a broad-spectrum antifungal medication containing Miconazole Nitrate. It is primarily used for the local treatment of vulvovaginal candidosis (commonly known as vaginal thrush) and associated skin infections. Produced by Janssen, it works by disrupting the cell membranes of fungi, effectively clearing the infection and relieving discomfort.

In Nigeria, vaginal yeast infections are frequently referred to as "toilet infection." Gyno-Daktarin is a trusted solution for treating the symptoms of this condition, including:
- Persistent vaginal itching and soreness.
- Thick, white, "cottage cheese" like discharge.
- Redness or swelling of the vulva.

How to Use Gyno-Daktarin with Applicator
For the best results, Gyno-Daktarin should be inserted deeply into the vagina. This 40g tube typically comes with disposable applicators for hygienic use.
- Prepare the Tube: Remove the cap and use the spike to pierce the seal.
- Fill the Applicator: Screw the applicator onto the tube. Squeeze the tube until the applicator plunger reaches the stop mark (approx. 5g of cream).
- Insertion: Lie on your back with your knees drawn up. Gently insert the applicator as far as it can comfortably go into the vagina.
- Release: Push the plunger to release the cream and remove the applicator.
- Dosage: Usually, one applicator-full is used daily at bedtime for 7 consecutive days, even if symptoms improve earlier.
Safety and Precautions
While Gyno-Daktarin is highly effective, it is important to follow these safety guidelines:
- Pregnancy: If you are pregnant, consult a healthcare professional before use. Applicators should be used with caution during pregnancy.
- Partner Treatment: If your partner also shows symptoms of a yeast infection (redness or itching of the penis), they may need to apply the cream externally.
- Condoms: This cream can damage latex contraceptives (condoms and diaphragms), making them less effective.
