What is Imiquimod Cream 5% w/w?
Imiquimod 5% w/w cream is a topical medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as immune response modifiers. Unlike traditional treatments that physically remove abnormal skin tissue, Imiquimod works by stimulating your body's own immune system to fight specific skin conditions.
This pack contains 3 single-use sachets, which is a common retail size in Nigeria to ensure affordability and dosage accuracy. Each sachet contains 250mg of cream, providing 12.5mg of the active ingredient.
Uses of Imiquimod Cream
Imiquimod cream is primarily prescribed for:
- External Genital and Perianal Warts: Treatment for warts appearing on the outside of the body.
- Actinic Keratosis (AK): Treating precancerous skin growths caused by long-term sun exposure, typically on the face or scalp.
- Superficial Basal Cell Carcinoma (sBCC): A type of skin cancer, when surgery is not appropriate.
How to Apply Imiquimod Cream
For the best results and to minimize side effects, follow these steps:

- Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area just before going to bed.
- Rub the cream in until it vanishes.
- Leave the cream on for the duration recommended by your doctor (usually 6 to 10 hours). Do not bathe or swim during this time.
- Wash off the cream the following morning with mild soap and water.
- Discard the opened sachet after one use, even if there is cream left over.
