Symbicort Turbuhaler 160/4.5mcg (60 Doses)
Symbicort Turbuhaler is a combination inhaler designed for the effective management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contains two active ingredients, Budesonide and Formoterol, which work together to reduce inflammation and keep the airways open, making it easier to breathe.
How Symbicort Turbuhaler Works
This inhaler combines a corticosteroid with a long-acting bronchodilator:
- Budesonide: Helps reduce and prevent swelling and inflammation in the lungs.
- Formoterol: A long-acting beta2-agonist (LABA) that relaxes the muscles in the airways, providing fast and long-lasting relief from bronchoconstriction.
Key Benefits
- Dual Action: Provides both anti-inflammatory treatment and long-term bronchodilation in a single device.
- Improved Breathing: Helps prevent symptoms like wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
- Convenient Design: The Turbuhaler is a breath-actuated dry powder inhaler, ensuring the medication reaches your lungs effectively without the need for propellants.
- Effective Maintenance: Suitable for long-term daily maintenance to keep respiratory conditions under control.
How to Use Symbicort Turbuhaler
For best results, follow your doctor's instructions. General steps include:
- Unscrew and lift off the cover.
- Hold the inhaler upright and turn the red grip as far as it will go in one direction, then back again until you hear a click.
- Breathe out gently (away from the inhaler).
- Place the mouthpiece between your teeth and close your lips. Inhale forcefully and deeply.
- Remove the inhaler and hold your breath for about 5-10 seconds.
- Important: Rinse your mouth with water after each use to reduce the risk of mouth or throat irritation.
Precautions
- Prescription Only: Symbicort is a POM (Prescription Only Medication). Always consult a healthcare professional before use.
- Not for Acute Attacks: This strength is generally used for maintenance therapy. Always keep a fast-acting rescue inhaler (like Ventolin) available for sudden asthma attacks unless your doctor has prescribed Symbicort for both maintenance and rescue.
- Storage: Keep the cap tightly closed to protect from moisture. Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C.
- Pharmacist Consultation: If you have questions about how to use your inhaler, you can contact a GoMed pharmacist for guidance.
