It is an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) that works by quickly eliminating malaria parasites from the bloodstream, reducing symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, and body aches.

Active Ingredients

• Artemether (20mg) – A fast-acting antimalarial that kills malaria parasites at an early stage.
• Lumefantrine (120mg) – Complements Artemether by eliminating remaining parasites and preventing reinfection.

Indications (Uses)

Coartem 20/120 is used for:

• Treatment of uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum.
• Fast relief from malaria symptoms, including fever, chills, and body pain.
• Complete parasite clearance to prevent recurrence.

Dosage and Administration

• Adults & Children (weighing 5kg and above): Follow the doctor’s prescription carefully.
• Standard course: Take 6 doses over 3 days as follows:
  • Day 1: Take the first dose at diagnosis and the second dose after 8 hours.
  • Days 2 & 3: Take one dose every 12 hours (morning and evening).
• Take with food or milk to improve absorption.
• Complete the full course even if symptoms improve to prevent resistance.

Precautions and Warnings

• Not for severe malaria—seek medical attention for complicated cases.
• Avoid skipping doses to ensure complete parasite clearance.
• May cause dizziness—use caution when driving or operating machinery.
• Not recommended for individuals with severe liver or kidney disease without medical advice.
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use.
