Product Overview

G-Flox 400 mg tablets contain gatifloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, thereby eliminating the infection.

Indications

G-Flox 400 mg is prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including:

• Respiratory Tract Infections: Such as acute sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, and community-acquired pneumonia.

• Urinary Tract Infections: Including cystitis and pyelonephritis.

• Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Caused by susceptible bacterial strains.

• Gastrointestinal Infections: Such as infectious diarrhea.

Dosage and Administration

• Dosage: The recommended dose is 400 mg once daily. The duration of treatment varies depending on the type and severity of the infection:

  • Acute Sinusitis: 10 days.

  • Chronic Bronchitis: 5 days.

  • Community-Acquired Pneumonia: 7 to 14 days.

  • Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections: 3 days.

  • Complicated Urinary Tract Infections: 7 to 10 days.

  • Skin Infections: 7 to 10 days.

• Administration: Take the tablet orally with a full glass of water. It can be taken with or without food. Avoid taking it alongside dairy products or calcium-fortified juices, as they may interfere with absorption. Maintain adequate hydration during treatment.

Precautions

• Allergic Reactions: Contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to gatifloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the formulation.

• Blood Glucose Disturbances: Gatifloxacin has been associated with both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, particularly in diabetic patients. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.

• Tendinitis and Tendon Rupture: Fluoroquinolones, including gatifloxacin, have been associated with an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture, especially in older adults and those on corticosteroid therapy.

• QT Prolongation: May cause QT interval prolongation; use with caution in patients with known QT prolongation, uncorrected electrolyte imbalance, or those on medications that can prolong the QT interval.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Gastrointestinal Disturbances: Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain.

• Central Nervous System Effects: Headache, dizziness, insomnia.

• Dermatologic Reactions: Rash, pruritus.

• Blood Glucose Abnormalities: Hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, particularly in diabetic patients.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe side effects such as tendon pain or swelling, severe dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat, mood changes, or signs of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, itching/swelling, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing).
