What is Mupiderm Ointment used for?
Mupiderm is used to treat various bacterial skin conditions, including:
- Impetigo: Also known as school sores, a highly contagious skin infection.
- Boils (Furunculosis): Painful, pus-filled bumps under the skin.
- Folliculitis: Infection of the hair follicles.
- Infected Wounds: Minor cuts, abrasions, or traumatic lesions that have become infected.
How Mupiderm Works
The active ingredient, Mupirocin, works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA) and Streptococcus pyogenes. By inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, it eliminates the root cause of the infection.
How to use Mupiderm Ointment
- Wash your hands before and after application.
- Clean the affected area thoroughly.
- Apply a small amount of Mupiderm Ointment to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily for up to 10 days, or as directed by your healthcare provider.
- You may cover the treated area with a sterile dressing if needed.
