Dianette Tablets
Product Overview
Dianette is a combined oral contraceptive pill containing two active ingredients: 2 mg of cyproterone acetate, an anti-androgen, and 35 micrograms of ethinylestradiol, an estrogen. It is primarily used to treat skin conditions such as acne, very oily skin, and excessive hair growth in women of reproductive age. Due to its contraceptive properties, it also functions as a birth control pill.
Indications
Acne Treatment: Effective in treating moderate to severe acne, especially when other treatments have not yielded satisfactory results.
Seborrhea: Helps manage excessively oily skin.
Hirsutism: Reduces unwanted hair growth in women.
Contraception: Prevents pregnancy during the course of treatment.
Dosage and Administration
Dosage: Take one tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day pill-free interval. During this break, a withdrawal bleed similar to a menstrual period usually occurs. Start each subsequent pack after the 7-day break, even if bleeding continues.
Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with water at the same time each day. It can be taken with or without food.
Missed Dose: If you miss a tablet and it is less than 12 hours late, take it as soon as you remember and continue the next dose at the regular time. If it is more than 12 hours late, the contraceptive effect may be reduced; follow the specific instructions provided in the patient information leaflet.
Precautions
Medical History: Inform your healthcare provider if you have a history of blood clots, liver disease, migraines, or any other significant medical conditions.
Smoking: Avoid smoking, especially if you are over 35 years old, as it increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects.
Regular Check-ups: Attend regular medical and gynecological check-ups, including breast examinations and cervical smear tests, while using Dianette.
Interactions: Some medications may interact with Dianette, reducing its effectiveness. Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking.
