Cetidyn-L Tablets (Levocetirizine)

Product Overview

Cetidyn-L contains Levocetirizine, a third-generation antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms. It works by blocking histamine, a substance in the body that triggers allergic reactions. Compared to older antihistamines, levocetirizine is more effective and causes less drowsiness.

Indications

Cetidyn-L is used for the treatment of:

• Allergic Rhinitis: Relieves sneezing, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes caused by seasonal or perennial allergies.
• Chronic Urticaria (Hives): Reduces itching and swelling associated with chronic skin allergies.
• Other Allergic Reactions: Helps manage mild allergic responses affecting the skin and respiratory tract.

Dosage and Administration

• Adults and Children (12 years and older):
  • Usual dose: One tablet (5 mg) once daily.
  • For mild symptoms: A lower dose (2.5 mg) may be sufficient.
• Children (6–12 years):
  • Typically 2.5 mg once daily (half a tablet).
• Administration:
  • Take with or without food.
  • Swallow whole with a glass of water.
  • Best taken in the evening if drowsiness occurs.

Precautions

• Drowsiness: While less sedating than older antihistamines, some individuals may still experience mild drowsiness.
• Alcohol and Sedatives: Avoid combining with alcohol or other sedative medications.
• Kidney Function: Patients with kidney disease may require a lower dose; consult a doctor before use.
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use only if prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Side Effects

Common side effects include:

• Mild drowsiness or fatigue
• Dry mouth
• Headache
• Nausea

Rare but serious side effects:

• Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
• Heart palpitations
• Difficulty urinating
