What is Cillinox Oral Powder for Suspension?
Cillinox is a prescription-only combination antibiotic formulated to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is a brand of "Ampiclox" (Ampicillin and Cloxacillin) produced by Afrab-Chem Limited in Nigeria. This 100ml suspension is commonly prescribed for both pediatric and adult patients.
How it Works
Cillinox combines two powerful penicillin-type antibiotics:
- Ampicillin: A broad-spectrum antibiotic that targets a wide range of bacteria.
- Cloxacillin: Specifically effective against certain bacteria that produce enzymes to resist standard penicillins.
This dual action makes Cillinox effective for treating respiratory tract infections, ear infections (otitis media), urinary tract infections (UTI), and skin or soft tissue infections.
How to Prepare and Use
Cillinox is supplied as a dry powder that must be reconstituted (mixed with water) before use.
- Add purified or boiled and cooled water to the mark on the bottle.
- Shake well until the powder is fully dissolved and turns into a pink, flavored suspension.
- Once mixed, the suspension should be used within 7 days.
Note: Always complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor, even if you start feeling better sooner.
Safety and Storage
- Storage: Store the dry powder in a cool, dry place. Once reconstituted, it is best kept in a refrigerator (2°C–8°C) but can be stored below 30°C if used within the week.
