Ampiclox is a combination antibiotic containing ampicillin and cloxacillin, both belonging to the penicillin class. This formulation is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, making it suitable for treating various infections.
Indications
Ampiclox is indicated for the treatment of infections such as:
Respiratory Tract Infections: Including bronchopneumonia and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
Ear, Nose, and Throat Infections: Such as otitis media and sinusitis.
Urinary Tract Infections: Including cystitis and pyelonephritis.
Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Such as cellulitis and wound infections.
Gastrointestinal Infections: Including enteritis.
Septicemia: Bloodstream infections.
Bone Infections: Such as osteomyelitis.
Note: Ampiclox is not effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci.
Dosage and Administration
Adults: The typical oral dosage is 500 mg to 1 g every 6 hours, depending on the severity of the infection.
Children: Dosage is determined based on body weight and the severity of the infection. Consult a healthcare professional for appropriate dosing.
Administration: Ampiclox should be taken on an empty stomach, preferably 30 minutes before meals, to enhance absorption. The sachet contents can be dissolved in water and consumed immediately.
Precautions
Allergies: Do not use Ampiclox if you have a known allergy to penicillins or cephalosporins.
