What is Stop TB Kit?
Stop TB Kit is a first-line, fixed-dose combination (FDC) medication specifically formulated for the continuation phase of Tuberculosis (TB) treatment. Each film-coated tablet contains two essential antituberculosis agents: Rifampicin (150mg) and Isoniazid (75mg). This kit is designed to provide a comprehensive supply of medication to ensure treatment completion and prevent the development of drug-resistant TB.
How it Works
The combination of Rifampicin and Isoniazid works by attacking the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria in different ways. Rifampicin inhibits the bacteria's ability to produce essential proteins, while Isoniazid prevents them from forming their protective cell walls. By using this fixed-dose combination, patients can reduce the number of tablets they need to take daily, which helps in sticking to the treatment plan.
Indication and Usage
This medication is primarily used during the continuation phase of active pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis treatment in adults and adolescents. It is usually prescribed after the initial intensive phase of treatment. The 336-tablet pack size is typically intended for a four-month supply, based on a standard dosing schedule of 3 tablets per day.
