What is Tiniflox 600/200mg?
Tiniflox is a dual-action oral anti-infective medication manufactured by Swiss Pharma Nigeria Limited (Swipha). It combines two potent agents—Ofloxacin (200mg) and Tinidazole (600mg)—to treat a variety of bacterial and protozoal infections, particularly those affecting the gastrointestinal tract.
Note: While sometimes confused with similar combinations containing norfloxacin, the official Swipha Tiniflox formulation specifically uses Ofloxacin for broad-spectrum antibacterial action.
What is Tiniflox used for?
Tiniflox is primarily prescribed in Nigeria for the treatment of:
- Infectious Diarrhea: Effectively targets the pathogens responsible for severe stomach upsets and "watery stool."
- Amoebic Dysentery: Helps clear parasitic infections in the gut.
- Mixed Infections: Used for conditions involving both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) and UTIs: May be prescribed for specific reproductive and urinary tract infections where dual action is required.
How to use Tiniflox 600/200mg
Always follow the specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider or GoMed pharmacist.
- Standard Dosage: The common dosage for adults is typically one tablet twice daily, but this may vary based on the severity of the infection.
- Administration: Tablets should be swallowed whole with water, preferably after a meal to reduce stomach irritation and ensure better absorption.
- Completion: Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve early to prevent antibiotic resistance and ensure the infection is fully cleared.
Side Effects
While generally well-tolerated, some users may experience:
- Nausea or a metallic taste in the mouth.
- Loss of appetite.
- Dizziness or headache.
If you experience severe allergic reactions or persistent discomfort, discontinue use and contact a doctor or GoMed pharmacist immediately.
Safety Precautions
- Alcohol: Avoid consuming alcohol during treatment and for at least 3 days after the last dose to prevent a disulfiram-like reaction (nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat).
- Pregnancy: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a GoMed pharmacist before using this medication. Tinidazole is typically avoided during the first trimester.
