What is Trimac Forte?
Trimac Forte is a potent, double-strength antibacterial medication manufactured by Swiss Pharma Nigeria Limited (Swipha). It is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic known as Co-trimoxazole, consisting of two active ingredients: Sulfamethoxazole (800mg) and Trimethoprim (160mg).
This medication works through a sequential blockade of bacterial folic acid synthesis, making it highly effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
What is Trimac Forte used for?
In Nigeria, Trimac Forte is commonly prescribed for various systemic and localized bacterial infections, including:
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Effective for both simple and complicated bladder or kidney infections.
- Respiratory Tract Infections: Used in the treatment of acute bronchitis and pneumonia.
- Gastrointestinal Infections: Such as Typhoid fever and Shigellosis.
- Ear and Sinus Infections: Treatment for Otitis Media.
- Prophylaxis: Often used to prevent infections like Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia in immunocompromised individuals.
How to use Trimac Forte
Trimac Forte should be taken exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
- Dosage: Usually one tablet twice daily for adults, but this varies based on the severity of the infection.
- Administration: Can be taken with or without food. Drink plenty of water during treatment to prevent kidney stones (crystalluria).
- Completion: Always finish the full course of antibiotics, even if you start feeling better, to prevent antibiotic resistance.
