Unigyl Metronidazole Infusion 500mg/100ml
Unigyl Infusion is a sterile, non-pyrogenic intravenous (IV) solution containing Metronidazole, a potent nitroimidazole antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent. It is specifically formulated for the treatment of serious infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa, particularly when oral medication is not an option.
Key Uses and Indications
Unigyl Infusion is primarily used in clinical and hospital settings for:
- Treatment of Anaerobic Infections: Effective against infections such as peritonitis, brain abscess, osteomyelitis, and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
- Surgical Prophylaxis: Administered before abdominal or gynecological surgeries to prevent post-operative infections.
- Protozoal Infections: Used for severe cases of amoebiasis and trichomoniasis.
How it Works
The active ingredient, Metronidazole, works by entering the DNA of susceptible microorganisms and disrupting their synthesis. This process leads to the rapid death of the bacteria or protozoa, helping to clear the infection efficiently.
Administration and Safety
Unigyl Infusion must be administered by a healthcare professional via a slow intravenous drip. It should not be used as an intramuscular injection.
