Product Overview
Doxycycline Fidson contains doxycycline, a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, preventing the growth and spread of bacteria in the body.
Indications
Doxycycline is prescribed for the treatment of:
- Respiratory Tract Infections – Pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) – Including cystitis and pyelonephritis.
- Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) – Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

Dosage and Administration
Adults:
- Initial Dose: 200 mg on the first day (as a single dose or in two divided doses).
- Maintenance Dose: 100 mg once daily, or as prescribed.
Children Over 8 Years (weighing more than 45 kg):
- Usual Dose: 2 mg/kg per day, as directed by a doctor.
Malaria Prevention:
- Dose: 100 mg once daily, starting 1–2 days before travel and continuing for 4 weeks after leaving the malaria-endemic area.
Administration:
- Take with a full glass of water to reduce the risk of esophageal irritation.
- Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking the capsule.
- Can be taken with food if stomach upset occurs, but avoid dairy products as they may reduce absorption.
Precautions
- Not for Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women: Doxycycline can harm fetal bone and teeth development.
- Children Under 8 Years: Should be avoided unless absolutely necessary, as it may cause permanent tooth discoloration.
- Sun Sensitivity: Increases the risk of sunburn; use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors.
